US Mail online confirmation mechanisms:

"Certified Mail ...you receive a receipt stamped with the date of mailing. A unique article number allows you to verify delivery online. As an additional security feature, the recipient’s signature is obtained at the time of delivery and a record is maintained by the Post Office. For an additional fee, request a copy of the signature record before or after delivery with Return Receipt." USPS on Certified Mail

"Signature Confirmation, you can get confirmation of delivery -- including date, time and location -- and you can request to have a letter faxed or mailed to you with a copy of the recipient’s signature... Verify date, time and ZIP Code of delivery online." USPS on Signature Confirmation Service
