About the HPAlumnipedia

From HPAlumnipedia

Jump to: navigation, search

The HPAlumnipedia site captures the collected knowledge of HP Alumni Association members about transition, career, and other issues – using pages written by teams of HPAA members ...and comments selected from the HPAA's online discussion forums.

The objective is to share authentic, attributed information in an organized, sustainable, and updatable manner for use by current and future HP alumni.

The HPAlumnipedia site was initially based on the famous "HP Work Force Restructuring Collected Knowledge" site – developed and maintained by Alan Silverstein – that has helped many exHPers since late 2002.

How the HPAlumnipedia is developed

Most pages on the HPAlumnipedia site are public.

Certain pages are available only to HPAA members; they are marked with this symbol:  (members only)

Members work together to develop and edit the private pages – some of which will become public.

HPAlumnipedia pages are attributed to the authors. They are written and edited using real names, not screen names. (Email addresses, however, are not visible.) As appropriate, member comments are attributed to "Anonymous" by the HPAlumnipedia editing team.

The software

The HPAlumnipedia site uses the same user interface and editing tools as the extremely popular and well-known Wikipedia – the free online encyclopedia.

The open-source MediaWiki software has been modified by the HPAA to suit our needs.

MediaWiki has excellent searching and cross-linking facilities – making it easy to find what you are looking for.

In addition, MediaWiki makes it easy to organize contributions from multiple attributed sources – making it easier to keep the information up-to-date.

Further information on MediaWiki is at www.mediawiki.org
