Following are tidbits, in somewhat random order, related to life and other insurance coverage issues, while transitioning. There is a separate section of the HPAlumnipedia (Benefits) for post-transition insurance/benefits issues.

Alan Silverstein, Fall 2002:

As expected I received a statement from HP's GUL (Group Universal Life) carrier, billing me for continuation of my term life insurance. (Well it's really whole life with a small cash component if you don't voluntarily add more?) I called and discovered I could prepay, say for a year at a time, so that's what I did to avoid being billed monthly.

By the time the bill arrived I was already technically in arrears. Dunno what happens if you die before you make continuing payment. Since they seem slow to bill, you might want to deal with this proactively.
